APC Constitutes Presidential Campaign Council, Names Yari DG, Uzodimma Secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed Director-General and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, named Secretary.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Vice Chairman. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, was also named a Vice Chairman.

Other key appointments include APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, as Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.

The campaign council will be supported by a team of senior political figures serving as advisers, including former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; veteran journalist and politician, Chief Segun Osoba; Senator Rochas Okorocha; Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.

Akpabio, Abbas, Buni to Coordinate Campaign Structure

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, have been appointed Deputy Directors-General for the campaign’s zonal structures.

They will work alongside Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau in coordinating the two broad campaign zones.

Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, will serve as Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration as Deputy Director-General.

Faleke Returns to Election Planning

James Abiodun Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.

He will work with zonal directors covering the six geopolitical zones.

The appointments include Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Dele Alake Leads Media Team

The media and strategic communication directorate will be coordinated by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka have been appointed coordinating deputy directors.

Segun Dada will head the New Media directorate, with Solomon Arowolo as its secretary.

The campaign’s five-member spokesperson team will be led by Dele Alake, with Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda as members.

Tinubu Charges Council to Deliver Victory

President Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work tirelessly towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.

He also urged directorate heads to engage other party members who may not have been formally listed but could contribute to the campaign.

According to the President, the APC will enter the campaign season with the achievements of his administration as a major selling point.

The President said the government had delivered on its campaign promises and put the country on a path of economic progress, urging party members to confidently showcase the administration’s record and inspire hope among Nigerians.

The constitution of the campaign council marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, bringing together senior party leaders, government officials and experienced campaign strategists under a central structure.
