The Executive Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Hon. Chris Onogba, has vowed to intensify the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area following the tragic killing of Mr. Vincent Adojor during a recent abduction incident in Oghara.
The Council Chairman made the pledge on Thursday when he led a delegation, including the Council Vice Chairman, Austin Atomre, and the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Felix Ejimoyoma, on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
The incident, which has sparked outrage and heightened security concerns across Oghara and neighbouring communities, claimed the life of Mr. Adojor, while his wife was abducted by the kidnappers. She later regained her freedom after the payment of a ransom by the family.
Speaking during the visit, Onogba described the incident as tragic, painful and unacceptable, assuring the bereaved family of the council’s sympathy and support.
“It is a painful loss that no family should have to endure. Our prayers are with the family, and we ask God Almighty to grant you the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the Chairman stated.
The Council Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that insecurity would not be allowed to thrive in any part of the local government.
He disclosed that all relevant security agencies have been directed to intensify investigations into the incident and ensure that everyone involved in the crime is identified, apprehended and brought to justice.
“We will deploy every lawful means within our authority to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities threatening the peace and security of our communities,” he stated.
Hon. Onogba also appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands, despite the anger and tension generated by the incident.
According to him, the local government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working tirelessly to restore peace, maintain law and order, and guarantee the safety of residents across Ethiope West.
He further called on members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing efforts to tackle criminality and improve security in the area.
The killing of Mr. Vincent Adojor and the abduction of his wife have renewed calls for stronger security measures in Oghara and other communities in Ethiope West Local Government Area, with residents urging authorities to take decisive steps to curb the growing threat of kidnapping in the state.
