2027: Omo-Agege Seeks Media Attention With Mudslinging Against Oborevwori — Aniagwu
Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Mr Charles Aniagwu, has accused former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, of resorting to mudslinging against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to attract media attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aniagwu made the assertion on Sunday during an interview on Arise News’ The Morning Show, where he argued that Omo-Agege should be presenting his agenda to voters in Delta Central rather than making allegations against a governor who is not contesting the same election.
According to the commissioner, while Governor Oborevwori is seeking re-election as governor of Delta State, Omo-Agege is campaigning to return to the Senate to represent Delta Central Senatorial District.
“What we have observed is that a number of these persons, particularly Senator Omo-Agege, don’t seem to have anything to campaign against Governor Oborevwori,” Aniagwu said.
He questioned why Omo-Agege would make allegations against Oborevwori instead of explaining to voters what he intends to achieve if elected to the Senate.
“If you are starting your campaign on the first day, instead of telling the people what you want to do to be able to win the Delta Central senatorial seat, you are alleging that somebody who is not on the same ballot with you is thinking of eliminating you,” he said.
Aniagwu Dismisses Alleged Threats
The commissioner also dismissed allegations that Governor Oborevwori had threatened Omo-Agege, describing such claims as inconsistent with the governor’s character and record.
“That is not the kind of governor we have. Our governor does not go into making threats,” Aniagwu said.
He pointed to what he described as the relative tranquillity, safety and security experienced across Delta State over the past three and a half years as evidence of the administration’s approach to governance.
Aniagwu further alleged that Omo-Agege’s repeated references to Oborevwori were intended primarily to keep the former senator in the news.
“He knows that if he didn’t go that route, you may not remember to mention his name,” he said.
Oborevwori Campaign Will Be Based on Performance
Aniagwu said the Oborevwori administration would not be drawn into what he described as a mud fight, insisting that its campaign for the 2027 elections would focus on the governor’s record of achievements.
“Our campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections is going to be evidence-based. We will be showcasing what we have done, what constitutes our report card,” he said.
He added that the administration would highlight projects executed across the 25 local government areas, including communities regarded as political strongholds of opposition figures.
Emevor-Orogun Road Nears Further Completion
The commissioner cited the ongoing Emevor-Orogun Road project as an example of the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to infrastructure development irrespective of political affiliation.
According to him, the 15.7-kilometre road connects several rural communities and has already recorded substantial progress under Phases I and II, with more than eight kilometres completed.
“As we speak, we are constructing a road that is heading to Omo-Agege’s community in Orogun, starting from a place called Emevor-Orogun. It is a 15.7-kilometre stretch. We have already completed 8-point-something kilometres of that stretch,” Aniagwu said.
He said work would continue under Phase III, describing the project as part of the government’s broader rural road programme across the state.
Aniagwu maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s development agenda was not determined by political affiliation but by the need to deliver projects that improve the lives of residents.
“The governor is not looking at whether the man is speaking German or speaking Japanese. The governor is interested in the development that will touch his people,” he said.
The commissioner said the administration would remain focused on its development agenda and allow its achievements to speak for it as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
