Oborevwori Convenes Delta Security Summit 2026 as Stakeholders Unite Against Crime, Terrorism

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will on Wednesday, June 17, host the Delta State Security Summit 2026 in Asaba as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture and promote collective action against crime and other security threats.

The summit, themed “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” will take place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, by 10:00 a.m., according to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu.

The high-level gathering is expected to bring together security chiefs, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, religious leaders, youth leaders, civil society organizations, transport unions, market women groups, and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on practical solutions to emerging security challenges in Delta State.

Delta Government Pushes Community-Based Security Approach

The Delta State Government said the summit underscores its commitment to building a safer environment through collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, community leaders, and residents.

According to the statement, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will participate in discussions aimed at strengthening security coordination across the state.

The government emphasized that security cannot be left solely to security agencies, stressing that sustainable peace requires the active involvement of citizens and community stakeholders.

Stakeholders to Discuss Strategies Against Crime and Insecurity

Participants are expected to examine current security concerns, identify emerging threats, and recommend measures to improve intelligence gathering, community policing, conflict prevention, and public safety.

The summit comes amid increasing calls for stronger cooperation among security stakeholders to tackle kidnapping, cult-related violence, drug-related crimes, terrorism, and other forms of criminality threatening communities across the state.

Government officials believe the summit will provide a platform for robust dialogue and the development of actionable strategies to enhance security and protect lives and property.
