Delta Government Defends Oborevwori’s Performance, Highlights Major Achievements Under MORE Agenda–Ahon
The Delta State Government has strongly defended the performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, dismissing criticisms contained in a recent article that questioned the administration’s development priorities.
Reacting to the publication titled “Beyond Concrete: When Contracts Replace Governance in Oborevwori’s Delta,” the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Festus Ahon, described the article as an opinion piece driven by assumptions, selective omissions and inaccurate conclusions.
In a statement issued on Monday, Ahon said Governor Oborevwori’s administration has, within three years, delivered substantial progress across key sectors through the implementation of the MORE Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Delta Government Says Development Goes Beyond Infrastructure
According to the government, contrary to claims that the administration is overly focused on road construction and contracts, the Oborevwori-led government has maintained a balanced approach to development by investing in healthcare, education, agriculture, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, security and rural development.
Ahon emphasized that roads, bridges, hospitals, schools, drainage systems and security infrastructure are critical enablers of economic growth and social development rather than mere construction projects.
He noted that several landmark projects have either been completed or are ongoing across the state, including the PTI Junction Flyover, DSC Roundabout Flyover, Enerhen Junction Flyover, Otovwodo Flyover, Agbor Flyover, the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project, Ayakoromo Bridge, Kwale-Beneku Bridge, and numerous urban and rural road projects spanning the state’s three senatorial districts.
Healthcare Sector Records Major Investments
The state government also highlighted significant improvements in the health sector, revealing that modern medical equipment, including CT scan machines, MRI facilities, dialysis machines and 25 state-of-the-art 4D ultrasound scanners, have been deployed across the state’s local government areas.
Ahon disclosed that more than 150 primary healthcare centres are currently undergoing renovation and upgrading.
He further revealed that the administration has completed a new College of Health Technology in Ovrode and constructed the Faculty of Medical Sciences building at Southern Delta University.
Education, Youth Empowerment Receive Boost
In the education sector, the government said thousands of teaching and non-teaching personnel have been recruited to strengthen learning outcomes in public schools.
The administration also cited ongoing investments in educational infrastructure and technical education aimed at equipping young people with practical and employable skills.
The statement added that hundreds of thousands of residents have benefited from empowerment programmes such as D-CARES, MORE Grants, MORE Biz-Up, WESAP and the Working Fingers Initiative.
According to the Governor’s CPS, the programmes have provided grants, vocational training and business support to youths, women, artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs across Delta State.
Government Rejects Claims of Neglecting Agriculture.
Addressing concerns over agriculture, the government insisted that the sector remains a priority under the MORE Agenda.
Ahon said farmers continue to receive support through agricultural extension services, input distribution, rural access roads and other interventions designed to increase food production and improve livelihoods.
Flood Control, Water Projects and Rural Development Ongoing
The administration also highlighted extensive flood-control and drainage projects in flood-prone communities, alongside urban renewal initiatives in Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, Sapele and other major towns.
According to the statement, several water supply schemes have been rehabilitated and expanded to improve access to potable water and strengthen public health outcomes.
The government further pointed to ongoing rural transformation efforts through the provision of roads, bridges, healthcare facilities, schools, electrification projects and water infrastructure in underserved communities, including riverine areas.
Oborevwori’s Security Investments Defended
Responding to criticism over plans to construct police divisional headquarters in the state’s 25 local government areas in anticipation of state policing, Ahon described the initiative as a strategic investment in public safety.
He argued that although policing remains on the Exclusive Legislative List, state governments have consistently supported security agencies with logistics and infrastructure.
“The benefits of improved security accrue directly to Deltans, their businesses, farms and communities. A secure environment attracts investment, promotes commerce and enhances the wellbeing of citizens,” the statement noted.
Oborevwori Remains Focused on Delta’s Transformation
The Delta State Government maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s achievements are evident in the visible improvements recorded across infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply, security and economic empowerment.
Ahon reiterated that the administration remains committed to delivering meaningful development and sustaining the transformation of Delta State through the implementation of the MORE Agenda.
He stressed that the true measure of governance should be the positive impact on citizens’ lives rather than political commentary, insisting that the administration’s record speaks for itself.
