Oborevwori Resolves DELSUTH Crisis, Orders Immediate Hospital Revamp and Power Restoration

Asaba, Delta State – Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has resolved the industrial crisis at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, and ordered immediate steps to address the institution’s longstanding infrastructural and power challenges.

The intervention followed a closed-door meeting between Governor Oborevwori and the management of the state’s premier teaching hospital on Monday.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting in Asaba, the Chief Medical Director of DELSUTH, Prof. Harrison Abedi, expressed appreciation to the governor for his timely intervention, saying it had restored hope among the management and staff of the hospital.

According to Prof. Abedi, Governor Oborevwori personally invited the hospital’s management to discuss the issues that led to the workers’ unrest and successfully brokered a resolution.

Oborevwori Moves to End DELSUTH Power Crisis

The Chief Medical Director disclosed that the governor also addressed the prolonged power outage that has disrupted hospital operations and water supply over the past two weeks.

He revealed that the Delta State Government had already awarded a contract to restore stable electricity to the hospital and that the Ministry of Energy had commenced implementation.

Prof. Abedi further disclosed that a new high-tension transformer, which will provide DELSUTH with a dedicated 33KVA power line, has been sourced and is currently being transported from Lagos for installation.

«”The governor has assured us that the power problem will soon become a thing of the past. We are grateful that the Ministry of Energy has swung into action, and we expect the transformer to arrive very soon,” he said.»

Governor Orders Comprehensive Rehabilitation of DELSUTH

Beyond resolving the industrial dispute, Governor Oborevwori directed the hospital management to work closely with the Commissioner for Health to ensure the comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization of the teaching hospital.

The planned revamp is expected to address the institution’s ageing infrastructure, improve healthcare delivery, and enhance the working environment for staff and patients.

Prof. Abedi expressed optimism that the governor’s intervention would encourage the striking unions to suspend their industrial action and return to work.

«”We believe the unions will reconsider their position, and we are hopeful that the strike will be called off soon. Once that happens, normal services will resume immediately, and DELSUTH will return to full operation,” he stated.»

He commended Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector in Delta State, describing the intervention as a demonstration of responsive and people-centred leadership.

The latest intervention by Governor Oborevwori is expected to restore normalcy at DELSUTH and accelerate efforts to reposition the teaching hospital as a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria.
