Daughter of Oghara Monarch Emerges Best Graduating MBBS Student at UNICAL

Princess Ziregbe Eshemitan, daughter of the traditional ruler of the Oghara Kingdom, has brought pride and honour to her family and community after emerging as the overall Best Graduating Student in Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the 56th Physicians’ Oath-Taking Ceremony of the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar.

The prestigious ceremony, held on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Conference Centre, University of Calabar (UNICAL), marked the formal induction of new medical and dental graduates into the medical profession.

According to the official programme of the event, Princess Ziregbe Eshemitan was awarded the Provost’s Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student in MBBS, a recognition reserved for the most outstanding medical graduate of the session.

Further underscoring her exceptional academic performance, Eshemitan also clinched the Dr. Obal Ofu Prize for Best Graduating Student in Internal Medicine with Distinction, making her one of the most decorated graduates of the ceremony.

Her achievements were highlighted during the valedictory segment of the programme, where she was selected to deliver the Valedictory Speech on behalf of the graduating MBBS class, a role traditionally reserved for the top-performing student.

The oath-taking ceremony, themed “The Noble Calling of Medicine: Maintaining Excellence, Ethics and Empathy,” featured a sponsorship lecture delivered by Professor Maxwell U. Anah and was attended by university administrators, medical professionals, family members,  including the HRM Otefe 111, the Ovie of Oghara kingdom and well-wishers.

The academic feat has been widely celebrated in Oghara Kingdom, where residents described Princess Eshemitan’s accomplishment as a testament to hard work, discipline and the value of quality education.
