Court Remands Four Suspects Over Alleged Gun-Running Syndicate in Delta

Delta Police Recover Beretta Pistol, Ammunition as Investigation Continues

The High Court of Delta State, Asaba Judicial Division, has remanded four suspects allegedly linked to a gun-running syndicate following their arraignment over the recovery of a Beretta pistol at Effurun Transport Park in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike were arrested during separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Bayelsa and Imo States.

The Delta State Police Command said the arrests followed extensive investigations into the illegal procurement, distribution, and movement of firearms across state boundaries.

According to the Command, the investigation began after a Beretta pistol was recovered at the Effurun transport park on April 26, 2026.

The suspects were subsequently charged before the court on five counts bordering on unlawful possession of firearms, possession of live ammunition, conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society, and alleged membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity.

The charges were filed under relevant provisions of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Firearms Act, Criminal Code Law of Delta State, and the Prohibition and Prescription of Youth Associations and Organisations Law of the state.

After their arraignment, the court ordered that the four defendants be remanded in prison custody pending further hearing.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the Command remained committed to tackling illegal firearms, cult-related activities, and other violent crimes threatening public safety.

The police commissioner assured residents that efforts would continue towards arresting other suspects linked to the case who are still at large.

He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing crime and maintaining peace across Delta State.
