High Chief Dr Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has expressed sadness over the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, describing his demise as unexpected and a great loss.

Tompolo, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, expressed his condolences in a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The former governor’s death was announced by his family on Monday.

In his condolence message, Tompolo recalled Uduaghan’s contributions during the period of militancy in the Niger Delta, particularly his support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the pipeline surveillance initiative introduced during the administrations of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He noted that the former governor played an important role during a critical period in the Niger Delta, when efforts were being made to address insecurity, promote peace and improve stability in the oil-producing region.

Tompolo said Uduaghan’s contributions would not be forgotten, adding that the former governor would be greatly missed.

He prayed to God to grant the deceased’s family, friends and associates the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State for two consecutive terms, from 2007 to 2015, during which his administration witnessed significant developments and challenges in the state, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

Tompolo’s tribute adds to the expressions of grief following the announcement of the death of the former governor, whose political career and involvement in regional peace efforts remain part of Delta State’s recent history.
