The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has announced the participation of legal practitioner Godswill O. Umahi, Esq., as a panelist at its 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series, while renowned academic and media professional, Professor Kemi Anthony Emina, OdiEga, has accepted to moderate the panel discussion.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba, Delta State, under the theme, “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges, and Media Accountability.”
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
In a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of the DOPF Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series Planning Committee, Deacon Chijioke Williams Ugbolue, and the Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, said Umahi’s participation would enrich discussions on the legal, ethical, and technological challenges confronting Nigeria’s democracy and media industry.
They explained that his expertise in data privacy, regulatory compliance, artificial intelligence, technology law, and the rule of law would provide valuable perspectives on electoral integrity, public accountability, digital communication, and the evolving responsibilities of online publishers.
Umahi to Bring Legal and Technology Expertise
Umahi is a legal practitioner with over a decade of experience in litigation, covering land disputes, contract matters, criminal cases, and general civil litigation.
His professional interests also extend to global data privacy and data retention, supported by certifications in Artificial Intelligence, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Business Startup Management.
Beyond legal practice, he contributes to public discourse by offering legal and policy perspectives on national issues, particularly those relating to law, technology, and governance.
The DOPF planning committee expressed confidence that his participation would deepen conversations around the legal and ethical obligations of digital publishers in an increasingly technology-driven information environment.
His contributions are also expected to address the implications of emerging technologies for information management, regulatory compliance, and public trust.
Prof. Emina to Moderate Panel Discussion
Meanwhile, Professor Kemi Anthony Emina’s acceptance to moderate the panel discussion brings extensive experience in academia, journalism, broadcasting, philosophy, and public communication to the conference.
A distinguished philosopher, scholar, broadcaster, journalist, and community leader, Emina has built a career around intellectual engagement, public service, and human development.
His principal academic interests centre on Development Philosophy and African Metaphysics, through which he examines philosophical and developmental challenges confronting Africa and humanity.
Emina was among the pioneer staff of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company Ltd., publishers of The Pointer newspaper, before expanding his professional experience through service with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
His career also includes serving as Worldwide President of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association and as an active member of the university’s Governing Council. He currently chairs the Board of UI Ventures Ltd.
In recognition of his contributions to scholarship, leadership, and community development, Emina has received several honours, including the traditional title of OdiEga of Ebu.
His multidisciplinary background is expected to bring depth, balance, and intellectual rigour to discussions on electoral credibility, security challenges, and media accountability in Nigeria’s democratic process.
DOPF Conference to Examine Democracy and Media Accountability
The 2026 DOPF Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series is expected to convene online publishers, journalists, academics, policymakers, legal practitioners, political leaders, security stakeholders, and other key actors to examine pressing challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy.
With electoral integrity, national security, misinformation, and declining public trust remaining important issues in democratic governance, the conference seeks to provide a platform for constructive engagement and practical recommendations.
The Forum also aims to strengthen professional standards among online publishers, promote responsible digital journalism, and encourage greater accountability in public communication.
By bringing together expertise from law, academia, journalism, broadcasting, and technology, the DOPF conference is expected to contribute to the national conversation on protecting democratic values and strengthening the media’s role in promoting transparency, credible elections, and good governance.
