NUC Gives Mosogar College of Education Green Light to Award Degrees, Approves 31 Programmes
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given the Delta State College of Education, Mosogar, the green light to commence 31 full-time undergraduate degree programmes under the Federal Government’s Dual-Mandate policy.
The landmark approval means the College can now offer NCE and university degree programmes concurrently, creating expanded opportunities for students seeking university qualifications without leaving the institution.
The approval followed a Resource Verification exercise conducted by the NUC, where the Commission assessed the College’s infrastructure, facilities, academic staff and other requirements for the proposed programmes.
In its official approval letter, the NUC confirmed that it had considered and approved the full-time mode of all 31 undergraduate programmes applied for by the College.
The development is in line with the Federal Colleges of Education and State Colleges of Education 2023 Amendment Act, which provides the legal framework for qualified Colleges of Education to operate both NCE and degree programmes.
31 Programmes Approved
The approved programmes cut across five schools within the institution.
The School of Education will offer Guidance and Counselling, Library and Information Science, Educational Management, Primary Education Studies, Early Childhood Education, Educational Technology, Adult and Continuing Education, and Sustainable Development Studies.
The School of Vocational Education will offer Agricultural Science Education, Home Economics Education, Entrepreneurship Education, Creative Arts and Business Education, with options in Accounting Education, Economics Education, Office Technology and Management Education, and Marketing Education.
The School of Art and Social Sciences will offer Economics Education, Social Studies Education, Political Science Education, Christian Religious Studies, Music and Geography Education.
Programmes approved for the School of Sciences include Chemistry Education, Integrated Science Education, Computer Science Education, Biology Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Human Kinetics (Sport Management), Health Education and Environmental Education.
The School of Languages will offer English and Literary Studies as well as English and Communication Arts.
The approval represents a major milestone in the history of Delta State College of Education, Mosogar, positioning the institution for a new phase of academic growth.
It is also expected to expand access to university education, strengthen teacher training and enhance the College’s contribution to human capital development in Delta State.
With the NUC approval, attention is now expected to shift towards the commencement of the newly approved degree programmes and admission opportunities for prospective students.
