Oborevwori Backs City Boy Movement, Boosts Youth Mobilisation Ahead of Elections
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has endorsed the growing influence of the City Boy Movement, pledging stronger collaboration to expand youth mobilisation and deepen political participation across Delta State and Nigeria.
The governor made this known on Tuesday when he received the leadership of the movement, led by its National Director-General, Francis Shoga, during a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.
Why the City Boy Movement Is Gaining Attention
Oborevwori highlighted the movement’s rapid expansion, coordinated structure, and strong media visibility, describing it as one of the emerging youth-driven platforms shaping political engagement in Nigeria.
According to him, the group’s consistent presence across communities and digital platforms reflects a new wave of youth participation in governance and public discourse.
“I have followed your activities closely. Your presence across the state and nationwide shows commitment, organisation, and a clear sense of purpose,” the governor said.
Support for Tinubu and APC Mobilisation Strategy
The governor also acknowledged the movement’s alignment with Bola Ahmed Tinubu and its mobilisation drive in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He encouraged members to sustain grassroots engagement, noting that youth mobilisation remains a critical factor in electoral success and democratic consolidation.
Youths as Drivers of Governance, Not Just Future Leaders
In a strong message on inclusion, Oborevwori stressed that Nigerian youths must be recognised as active stakeholders in shaping policies and governance outcomes.
He noted that their creativity, energy, and innovation are essential in building responsive leadership and sustainable development frameworks.
“Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are key contributors today. Their ideas and energy are vital to inclusive governance,” he stated.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to partner with credible youth platforms to drive advocacy, civic education, and leadership development.
Inside the Movement’s Expansion Across Nigeria and Beyond
Speaking earlier, Shoga described the visit as a strategic step toward strengthening youth unity and political responsibility.
He explained that the City Boy Movement is designed as a structured platform to empower young Nigerians, promote leadership capacity, and encourage active participation in governance.
“This is a movement built on responsibility and purpose. Nigerian youths must move from being observers to becoming decision-makers in national development,” he said.
Shoga revealed that the group has recorded significant growth, with operational structures in over 30 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, and an international footprint spanning more than 100 countries.
Delta Chapter Inaugurated as Momentum Builds
A major highlight of the visit was the formal inauguration of the Delta State chapter of the City Boy Movement, marking a new phase in its nationwide expansion.
The development is expected to further strengthen youth mobilisation efforts in the state, especially as political activities gradually build toward future elections.
