Oyo State Security Network Agency Condemns ‘Gestapo-Style’ Arrest of Operative by Nigeria Police Force

The Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has strongly condemned what it described as a “Gestapo-style” abduction of one of its operatives, Amo Saheed Ajibola, by suspected officers of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 11.

According to the agency, Amo Ajibola was lawfully deployed to a static patrol position covering the General Gas–Akobo axis of Ibadan when he was allegedly abducted at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while on official duty.
Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Commandant of the Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), faulted the manner in which the operative was apprehended. He stated that the agency has consistently maintained cordial and cooperative relationships with sister security agencies, including the Police, DSS, and NSCDC, particularly in handling criminal cases involving its personnel.
He explained that the Corps has always handed over any suspected operative to relevant security agencies upon formal request, describing this as the standard procedure guiding inter-agency collaboration.

The Commandant stressed that if there were any investigation involving the officer, the appropriate step would have been to formally notify and approach the Amotekun Headquarters, especially as the operative was on lawful duty at the time of the incident.

“There was no reason whatsoever justifying the Gestapo-like action of the officers from Zone 11, Osogbo,” Olayanju stated. “The police must be civil in their approach and mindful that suspects have the right to know their alleged offences and that their fundamental rights should be respected during arrest.”

He further observed that such an approach could have resulted in violent resistance and possible fatal consequences, particularly as the officers reportedly involved were neither in uniform nor operating branded police vehicles.

The Commandant described the method adopted as unbecoming and urged the police authorities to adopt more professional and transparent procedures in the interest of strengthening inter-agency cooperation and operational synergy.

As of press time, the Amotekun Headquarters said it had not received any official correspondence regarding the arrest of Amo Saheed Ajibola.
