Oborevwori’ll appoint Commissioner for Information in due course- Omokri

By Marian Kogolo-Asaba
Following mixed feelings across the State on what could be the rationale for the delay in appointing commissioner in ministry of information, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of information, Mr. Lucky Omokri has said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, will in due time appoint a commissioner for the Ministry of Information.
Omokri made this known today while playing host to the executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Asaba of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
Omokri hinted that the call by the chapel for a substantive commissioner for the ministry was genuine but asserted that the governor in his own wisdom would do the needful at the appropriate time; just as he absorbed the governor of any wrongdoing.
The permanent secretary tasked journalists on objective reportage of events in the state, appealing for fact-check of any report before going to the press.
While saying that his doors were opened for journalists to verify facts, he decried the high level of fake news and misinformation in the media space, calling on the NUJ send away quacks among the professional members so as not to drag the noble profession to ridicule.
Omokri also cautioned against using the media for propaganda against the government of the day, explaining that Gov. Oborevwori-led administration amid his MORE agenda meant well for Deltans.
Earlier, the Chairman Correspondents’ Chapel, Asaba, Comrade Ifeanyi Olannye, lauded the permanent secretary for his quick response despite the short notice.
He called on the permanent secretary on the need for the ministry to have a substantive commissioner, arguing that the Ministry of Information was the information hub of the state.
Olannye stressed that his led executives were ready to partner with the ministry in information dissemination of the Oborevwori-led administration.
