Impending Flood: NGO, NDDC embarks on Sensitization And Enlightenment Campaign in Delta

As part of effort to mitigate flooding in the Niger Delta States, Lopeng Energy Limited in collaboration with Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC today (Tuesday), embarked upon rigorous sensitization and enlightenment campaign of various Communities stakeholders, NGOs of impending flood predicted in the region.

The Sensitization/Engagement Campaign of Communities stakeholders in Rural Areas in the Nine States of the Niger Delta, Delta State Tranche, organized by Lopeng Energy Limited in Eku, Ethiope East of Delta with representatives of NDDC, NEMA.

Ethiope West delegates also participated in the conversation and amid syndicate session of the the Local government that were in attendance.

Conversations were centered around curtailing imminent flooding, where representatives were urged to be good advocates and ambassadors on the campaign, tagged “Be Flood Aware.”

It was also agreed that since climate change has come to stay with gas emissions and degeneration of ozone layers however, human activities like deforestation, construction of settlements in flood prone areas, natural waterways, inadequate maintenance of drainage facilities, blockage by debris etc, can cause serious flooding, leading to loss of lives and properties, mental instability and other health related issues.

The sensitization engagement urged all participants to go back to their various communities, sensitizing residents on the need to do the right thing by not trashing debris into drainage systems, avoid building on natural water ways and also construct drainage systems when erecting buildings.

The climax of the event were presentations by syndicate groups of various participating local governments. Ethiope West local government stood out among other local governments that presented their syndicate reports.
