Illicit drugs: How 25yrs old Son allegedly murdered mother in Delta Community

There was palpable tension in the hitherto peaceful town of Sapele community in Delta State, as horrible story has emerged, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.

According to sources in community, the family of Rev Prince Umukoro, a respected pastor and education entrepreneur, has been thrown into spotlight. This story as outlined delve into the chilling events surrounding the alleged murder of Mrs. Faith Umukoro by her son, Emmanuel Umukoro after alleged intake of illicit drugs, exploring the circumstances, the aftermath, and the broader implications of this tragic incident.

Rev Prince Umukoro, a son of the deceased traditional ruler of Oghara kingdom, HRM Oreki 11,  the resident pastor of Victory Family Assembly Int’l (VIFA) and owner of His Majesty Group of School located in Shell road, Sapele.

According to insider sources, the family, comprising his wife and four children, was considered a model household. However, beneath the surface, a storm was brewing, primarily centered around their only son, Emmanuel.

Emmanuel Umukoro, 25, had been grappling with mental health issues exacerbated by substance abuse (Hard Drugs). Despite undergoing rehabilitation, his struggle with drug addiction persisted, leading to subsequent unpredicted violent outbursts. A previous incident involving an attack on his mother, where the father intervened and was injured had already raised alarms about his mental state. Though his mental state has been shielded from the public knowledge, owing to his parents high ranking religious position.

HOW EMMANUEL KILLED HIS MOTHER..

Saturday the 6th day of September 2024, Rev Prince Umukoro left for a burial ceremony in Imo State, leaving his wife and son at home. Unknown to them, Emmanuel had sinister plans. He had already bought and kept a ready suffocated battle axe, he waited for an opportunity to strike. When his mother returned home that fateful day, he went for the battle axe and brutally attacked her, after the attack, he virtually and ultimately set her body ablaze.

After setting the body ablaze, Emmanuel fled to Warri in his mother’s sienna car, only to be apprehended by the police at Effurun Roundabout. His confession has it that he had previously made a chilling vow to kill his mother, leaving authorities and the community grappling with the horror of his actions.

Emmanuel’s case presents a complex intersection of legal and mental health issues. While he is currently in police custody, questions remain about his mental state and its impact on his culpability. The possibility of an external influence or underlying mental illness complicates the path to justice.

However, the alleged murder has sparked widespread debate and introspection within the Sapele community. Residents are left questioning the factors that led to such a tragedy and the measures needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The story of Emmanuel Umukoro and the murder of his mother is a stark reminder of the profound impact of mental health and substance abuse issues. As the community grapples with the aftermath, it is crucial to address these underlying problems and provide support to those in need.

Efforts to speak with family relatives yielded no results as the Chief mourner, Prince Umukoro was brief shaken as at the time of filling the report.
