Governor Oborevwori to Present 2026 Budget on Wednesday
The Delta State House of Assembly has given approval for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to appear before the legislature on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, to lay the draft bill for the 2026 Appropriation Law.
The consent followed the reading of the governor’s letter during Tuesday’s plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor. In the correspondence, Governor Oborevwori noted that presenting the annual budget before the House was in fulfilment of Section 121 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates state executives to submit yearly spending plans to the legislature.
He sought the lawmakers’ permission to make the presentation at 10:00 a.m. on the scheduled date and expressed optimism that the Assembly would give the request the necessary support.
The House unanimously endorsed the governor’s request through a voice vote after a motion moved by the Leader of the House.
Earlier in the sitting, the Leader and member representing Aniocha North, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, asked the Assembly for leave to introduce a bill to repeal the Public Health Law of 1957.
The proposed legislation, titled the Delta State Public Health and Hygiene Bill, 2025, subsequently passed its first reading following a motion supported by Hon. Edafe Emakpor of Uvwie constituency. The Speaker fixed December 9, 2025, for the second reading.
During the plenary, lawmakers also screened nominees for reappointment to the Delta State Civil Service Commission. Those considered were Comrade Evangelist Olumami Oyibo (First Member), Dr. Akpufuoma Pemu (Second Member), and Prince Mike Oputa (Third Member).
While Dr. Pemu and Prince Oputa were confirmed, the Speaker directed Comrade Oyibo to update his curriculum vitae and return on Thursday for further screening before possible confirmation.
At the end of deliberations, the House adjourned sitting to Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
