The Federal Government has banned the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) across the country, in a move aimed at tackling examination malpractice.

The directive, which affects both public and private secondary schools nationwide, was issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Sunday. It was signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the ministry, the decision was taken to address the growing trend of last-minute admissions and transfers into SS3, which officials say has contributed significantly to examination fraud and other sharp practices.

Under the new policy, schools are only permitted to admit or transfer students into SS1 and SS2. Admission into SS3 is strictly prohibited under any circumstances.

The ban will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

School proprietors, principals, and administrators have been warned to comply fully with the directive, as any violation will attract appropriate sanctions.

The Federal Government stated that the measure is part of broader efforts to promote fairness, integrity, and credibility in the conduct of senior secondary school examinations nationwide.
