Ethiope East Council suspends Ovu union election over alleged insecurity

The Ethiope East Local Government Council has suspended indefinitely, Ovu Development Union, ODU, election scheduled to hold today Saturday 22nd April, 2023.

The suspension letter which was issued by the Ethiope East Council Secretary, Hon. Edesiri Aganbi and ddressed to the Ovu Development Union, President General, Chief Pius Idogho, his exco, the Otota, Ovu Council of Chiefs and Elders, Chief Moses Akpoyovwaire and the Ovu Electoral Committee Chairman, Chief Julius Ogbevire dated Friday 21st April, 2023, suspended the Congress and Election indefinitely.

The ODU suspension letter which was copied to His Royal Majesty, Ogurime-Rime, Ukori 1, the Ovie of Agbon kingdom, the Commander, Nigeria Army, Oviorie, the Divisional Police Officer, Isiokolo and the Director General, Department of State Service, Isiokolo.

The letter which reads further says, “I am directed to refer to the above subject and inform you that the Executive Chairman of Ethiope East local government Council, Hon. (Pharm.) Victor Ofobrukueta, has ordered the immediate suspension of your planned Congress/Election that is scheduled to hold on Saturday 22nd April, 2023.

“You are hereby ordered by this letter to put the said Congress/Election on hold while a caretaker committee is put in place to oversee the affairs of the community, pending when a new date is fixed for the election within 90days.

“This decision for the suspension was taken due to security reports received and the executive chairman being the Chief Security Officer of the local government will not allow any of the communities under his jurisdiction become a battle field.

“You are therefore advised in your own interest and members of your community to adhere strictly to this directive as failure to do so will attract severe disciplinary action.

“For the avoidance of doubt, you may wish to be informed that the law enforcement agencies have been mandated to deal decisively with any person(s) who flout this order.”
