Delta State Govt frowns at NPDL neglect of host communities

Delta state government under the leadership of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed disappointment over Nigeria Petroleum Development Limited total neglect, non execution of Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, CSR amongst others to their host and impacted communities in the State.

The State government made the remarks within the week through the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Chief Vincent Oyibode while meeting the representative of NPDL who are operators of OML 49 & 98 and collision of aggrieved Host communities; gave the oil coy two weeks to resolve all outstanding agreement with the host communities, just as he warned that Gov. Oborevwori led administration would not tolerate any act that would cause security unrest between oil coy and host communities.

Oyibode also tasked the oil coy to without delay implement the PIA with their aggrieved host communities or be ready to face the wrath of law, stressed that it amount to unjust treatment on the side of NPDL for up till now have not start implementation of the PIA in any of the nine Oghara communities that petitioned them.

The Commissioner also directed that in implementation of the PIA, NPDL should adopt cluster management committee system which he said would be easier for both the communities and the oil coy.

Earlier the Host communities who are Oghara communities in Ethiope west local government had petitioned Delta State government accusing Nigeria Petroleum Development Limited of total neglect being Host and impacted communities.

The Host communities who formed a collision include; Otefe, Ijomi, Adagboyeri, Otumara, Arakpa, Ovwuovwu, Okuokpere, Okuofe, Edjemuoyavwe and Ovade communities appealed to the State government to wade into the situation to forestall any breakdown of laws and order.

The Host communities noted that if urgent steps is not taken, they would have no option than to shutdown the oil facilities in their domains.
