Delta LGA Chairman urges social media influencers on verified information dissemination

Executive Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Rt Hon. Nelson Oghenedoro Owoso has appealed to social media influencers in Nigeria, particularly in Ethiope West Local Government to as matter of public concern verify authenticity of information before sharing same on social media.
The Council boss made the appeal when playing host to selected some media influencers under the aegis of Ethiope West Social Media Influencers in his office; averred that some of the information being peddled on social media are not fact-checked, a situation that poses tension and misinformation in the society.
“some of the information circulated in the social media space are not verified and as such members of the public are been misinformed on sensitive issues that can cause crisis which will have negative effect on the peace and development in the local government and the State at large.”
He urged the group to be cautious and wary with any information and choice of words that can cause security unrest in our communities.
“We all must be careful and be sure of the information we give to the public, like they say ” words are like a broken eggs, when said to the public, it’s hard to gather it back”, he added.
Owoso also used the opportunity to inform the group on some the projects executed by his administration.
According to him, This administration has carried out rehabilitation of class room building in Primary school in Oghara and Jesse, rehabilitation of two bore holes in Mosogar, installation of two 500kva transformers in Ijerhe kingdom, fixing of bad spots in our roads and also acquired 3 dump sites across the three kingdoms of the local government. He added.
