Delta Govt Approves Over ₦400bn For Roads, Infrastructure, Plans 25 Police Divisional Headquarters
…SPU Base, University Hostels, Judges’ Quarters Also Approved
The Delta State Government has approved projects worth over ₦400 billion for the construction, rehabilitation and upgrading of roads and critical infrastructure across the state.
The approvals were granted on Friday during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the massive infrastructure package is aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activities, strengthening security, and enhancing connectivity across Delta communities.
According to him, the projects cut across several local government areas including Warri South, Warri South-West, Udu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ethiope East, Ethiope West, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North-East, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Bomadi, Burutu, Isoko North and Isoko South.
Delta Govt Approves Police Divisional Headquarters In 25 LGAs.
As part of efforts to strengthen security in the state, Aniagwu disclosed that the council approved the construction of a Nigeria Police Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base.
He also revealed that the government approved the construction of Police Divisional Headquarters in all 25 local government areas of the state, in anticipation of the Federal Government’s proposed state police policy.
Aniagwu explained that the decision forms part of the administration’s broader strategy to strengthen Delta’s security architecture and ensure safety across communities.
Major Road Projects Approved Across Delta
Among the key projects approved by the State Executive Council are:
Rehabilitation of Aghalokpe–SPDC–Adagbrassa–Aragba Road and adjoining streets in Okpe Local Government Area
Rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Okotomewo/Oviri Court/Adeje Road
Construction of Barrister Omamuzo Erebe and Eze Akporube Streets in Oshimili North
Reconstruction of failed road sections in Asaba and surrounding areas
Cutting of the hill at Asaba Airport to improve safety and accessibility
Additional projects approved in Asaba include:
Construction of Asagba Palace Road off Nnebisi Road
Construction of GBC Murphy Avenue with a spur to Chief Ugwuja Close/Nze Francis Road
Construction of Chris Abudeyi Street and Ogbeeshi Monochie Street
Warri, Udu, Sapele To Benefit From New Road Projects
In the Warri axis, projects approved include:
Reconstruction of Warri Internal Ring Road Phase II
Rehabilitation of the first 3km of Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road
Construction of Orient Drive off NPA Expressway
Rehabilitation of Enerhen Police Station Road and Aladja Avenue Road
Construction of Old Okoko Road from Koko Garage to Lagos Expressway
In Sapele, the government approved the rehabilitation of Powerline Road and the construction of Tutulane/Obodokwu Road.
For Udu Local Government Area, approved projects include:
Rehabilitation of Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road
Erosion control works along Ekakpamre/Ekrokpe–Usiefrun/Orhuwhorun roads
Construction of Udu Harbour Market internal roads
Construction of Igbogidi Road and Udu Market Access Road
Infrastructure Projects Spread Across Delta Communities
Other projects approved across the state include:
Extension of Imoniyame Road and Olori Road in Ughelli
Reconstruction of Eku–Osubi Road Phase II
Construction of Asuen Road in Owa-Ekei and Obi Ifeanayi Chukwu Road in Mbiri
Construction of Torugbene–Ojobo Road in riverine communities
Reconstruction of Oteri–Igbide–Emede Road in the Isoko axis
Construction of Ebendo–Iyasele–Ashaka Road and access roads to the Kwale Free Trade Zone
Delta Govt Approves University Hostels, Judges’ Quarters
Beyond road infrastructure, the State Executive Council also approved several institutional projects, including:
Male and female hostels in state-owned universities.
Renovation of magistrate courts and customary courts across Delta
Construction of five judges’ quarters in Osubi
Prototype judges’ quarters in Asaba
Completion of the Senate/Administrative Building at Delta State University, Abraka
Aniagwu said the approvals demonstrate the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to strengthening institutions, improving security, and delivering modern infrastructure that supports governance, economic growth and development across Delta State.
