Delta APC Rejects Alleged National Legal Adviser’s Letter on Ethiope West LGA Officials
By Kparobo Ehvwubare
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally disowned a letter circulating online and within party structures which allegedly directed the reinstatement of removed party officials in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 18, 2025, the party, through its State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., said the document does not represent the official position of the APC national leadership and should be disregarded by party members and the public.
Alleged Letter Linked to National Legal Adviser
The disputed letter was purportedly issued from the office of the APC National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, Esq., and allegedly instructed the Delta APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, to reinstate the former Chairman of APC Ethiope West LGA, Efe Amughoro, and his Vice Chairman following a claimed legal opinion on disciplinary issues.
However, the Delta APC clarified that although the National Legal Adviser is constitutionally permitted to provide legal opinions when consulted, such opinions cannot translate into binding directives without the endorsement of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
APC Explains Disciplinary Procedure
According to the statement, disciplinary matters involving Local Government and State party structures fall within the collective authority of the NWC and must be addressed through duly convened meetings and formal resolutions, as provided by the APC Constitution.
The party noted that the alleged letter makes no reference to any NWC meeting or resolution, thereby rendering it procedurally ineffective and incapable of imposing any obligation on the Delta State chapter.
Warning Against Misinformation
The Delta APC expressed concern that the circulation of the document could mislead party members and destabilize party structures, particularly in Ethiope West LGA.
As a result, the party urged its members, stakeholders, security agencies, and the general public to ignore the letter, stressing that it does not reflect the party’s official stance.
Commitment to Due Process
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, constitutional supremacy, due process, and the rule of law, the Delta APC called on members to remain calm and loyal to the party’s duly constituted leadership in Ethiope West Local Government Area.
