BAYELSA GOVERNMENT ORDERS AUTOPSY ON DEPUTY GOVERNOR’S DEATH
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has directed that an autopsy be conducted to medically determine the cause of the sudden death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
The deputy governor had collapsed in his office on Thursday and was later pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa.
Governor Diri announced the directive on Saturday while hosting former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Government House in Yanagoa.
This is even as speculation and rumours surrounding the circumstances of the death circulated on social media.
Governor Diri appealed for calm and respect, warning against politicising the tragedy
He urged citizens to honour Ewhrudjakpo’s memory during the period of mourning.
The state government has also declared three working days of official mourning.
Former President Jonathan paid tribute to the late deputy governor, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking public servant whose contributions to the state were widely respected.
